Split Level Remodeling Book

Do you live in a split-level or split-entry home? Would you like to see ideas on how to improve, upgrade and modernize your home? If so, help is on the way!

In conjunction with a group of Twin Cities communities, we’ve published Split Visions: A Planbook of Remodeling Ideas for Split-Level and Split-Entry Houses. The book is full of ideas for remodeling, improving, and updating split-level homes.

Robert Gerloff Residential Architects solicited comments from homeowners about what they liked, disliked, and would change about their 1960’s or 70’s split-level or split-entry house. Based on these comments, Gerloff developed remodeling plans that include expanding the entryway, creating storage areas on the first floor, opening up the main floor plan, and expanding the kitchen, among many others.

"About 32% of the county's housing stock, or 18,000 homes, are some type of split-level or split-entry," said Barbara Dacy, Executive Director of the Washington County HRA. "These homes are at year 30 in their life cycle and are at the age when most people think about remodeling. The planbook offers homeowners and potential buyers remodeling ideas that can improve the livability, curb appeal, and long-term market value of their home."
