HRA Celebrates National Homeownership Month with free homebuyer education class

Since 2002, the month of June has been celebrated as National Homeownership Month, a time when the Washington County HRA and the Minnesota Homeownership Center focus our attention on sharing the importance of pre-purchase education for prospective borrowers.  A slowly improving housing market and historically low interest rates are attracting many first-time buyers and we're encouraging first-time buyers to first learn the home buying process to ensure long-term success.

“Buying a home is likely the largest purchase that many Minnesotans will make in their lifetime,” said Ed Nelson, Marketing and Communication Manager for the Minnesota Homeownership Center. “Potential buyers need to be empowered to make smart choices every step of the process.  Nothing supports successful homeownership like a Home Stretch workshop by the Washington County HRA” he added.

As part of our June Homeownership Month celebration, we will be offering our award-winning Home Stretch workshop for free on Monday, June 15th, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Home Stretch is an eight-hour homebuyer workshop that covers all of the essential steps that buyers should take in order to realize their dream of homeownership.

Anyone who takes Home Stretch during June is automatically entered to win an iPad Air 2 or other great prizes through the Minnesota Homeownership Center.

We're also encouraging prospective borrowers work with a personal homeownership advisor to review their credit report and address any credit and debt issues before shopping for a home.   To set up a free appointment to meet with an advisor, contact one of our homeownership specialists. Their contact information is available at the bottom of this page.

Long-term successful homeownership is key to building stable neighborhoods and vibrant communities. Studies have shown that where homeownership flourishes, neighborhoods are more stable, residents are more civicā€minded, educational outcomes improve and crime rates decline. We're focused on building vibrant communities in Washington County and Home Stretch is the first step.
