Foreclosures at 10-year low in Washington County

Michelle Leonard of the Woodbury Bulletin reports today that Washington County experienced fewer foreclosures in 2014 than in any year since 2005.

Just 395 foreclosures were recorded in 2014, down from a county-wide high of 1,258 in 2008, and 589 in 2013. In the past decade, only 2005 saw fewer foreclosures — a total of 246 — than last year.

“This is fantastic news,” Washington County Commissioner Karla Bigham said during a foreclosure presentation to the County Board March 10. “The trends are heading in the right direction. This is fantastic news for Washington County.”
An additional breakdown of the numbers can be found in the HRA's foreclosure information report.

The foreclosure counseling provided here at the Washington County HRA helps to play a part in this process by working with homeowners who are behind on their mortgages or at risk of falling behind. Our counselors work with residents and their lenders to explore options for restructuring payments and loans with the goal of keeping residents in their homes.

Counseling is at no cost to residents. If you're an at-risk homeowner, you can discuss your situation with a counselor by calling 651-202-2822.
